The PALS program or American Heart Association’s Pediatric Advanced Life Support course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. The Never Forget 9-11 Foundation PALS program is led by the former Chairman of the Emergency Medical Services for Children National Resource Center Advisory Council.
This classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, pediatric treatment algorithms for cardiac and other conditions, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics.
The course also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In the course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.
PALS Program Educational Goals
The goal of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. Successful course completion includes completing the following components:
· Pass the 1- and 2-Rescuer Child BLS With AED and 1- and 2-Rescuer Infant BLS Skills Tests
· Actively participate in, practice and complete all learning stations
· Complete the closed-book written exam with a minimum score of 84%
· Pass 2 PALS core case scenarios (1 cardiac and 1 respiratory or shock) as a team leader, providing appropriate medical treatment and demonstrating effective team dynamics
Audience: This course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, paramedics and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirements. The AHA’s course is the premier PALS training for healthcare providers. The evidence-based content and well-tested teaching methodology can dramatically improve the learning and retention of lifesaving skills.

Approximately 6 to 7 hours (Renewal Course)
Upon successful completion, students receive an American Heart Association PALS Provider Card, valid for two years.
