Small Airplane Lands On Minnesota Highway

Minnesota traffic cameras have shock video of airplane emergency landing on I-35W. The video shows a small plane landing on the interstate and crashing into a vehicle Wednesday night.

The video shows the plane quickly decreasing altitude heading north and landing safely on the interstate before colliding with a car also heading north. Cars behind the crash stopped short of the scene as emergency crews begin to arrive.

The Minnesota State Patrol said the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on I-35W in Arden Hills, Minnesota. There were no injuries reported as a result of the emergency landing.

The pilot was identified as Craig Gifford, 52, of Minneapolis. He was flying a single-engine Bellanca Viking plant. Preliminary information from the FAA showed there were two people on the plane at the time.

The interstate was closed for hours as crews cleaned up the crash and removed the plane.

The incident is under investigation by the FAA and the National Transportation and Safety Board.

Sacramento Fire Ambulance Involved In Midtown Crash

A Sacramento City Fire Department ambulance was involved in a crash in Midtown Sacramento late Monday morning.

The crash happened near 28th and Q streets.

Details of the crash cause are unclear currently, but the ambulance and at least one other vehicle were involved despite reports that the ambulance does not have damage to it.

Authorities say the ambulance was not transporting any patients at the time of the crash.

Sacramento Police Department officials noted no one was hurt in the crash. There have been a large number of EMS agency motor vehicle accidents over the past few weeks.

The Sacramento Fire Department is a full-service fire department, with the responsibility of responding to and mitigating incidents involving firesmedical emergencieshazardous materials, technical and water rescues. The Department also provides a full range of support and/or administrative services including fire prevention and investigationlogisticstrainingfiscalhuman resources and information technology. The organization chart represents the current structure of the department.

The Department operates 24 fire stations from which it deploys 24 engine companies, nine truck companies, 15 ALS ambulances, a rescue company, three swift water rescue teams, and two hazmat response teams. Suppression companies are staffed with four personnel consisting of a Captain, an Engineer, and two Firefighters.

Department personnel respond to approximately 80,000 calls each year and provide service to approximately 480,000 residents and over 20,000 businesses located in the City of Sacramento. The Department also is contracted by Fire Protection District’s: Pacific/Fruitridge and Natomas, to provide fire protection service to an additional 50,000 residents. The contracted areas add approximately 46 square miles to the City’s incorporated area for a total of 146 square miles served by the Department.

In addition, the Department maintains automatic aid agreements with all of its neighboring agencies, supporting a boundary drop system. The Department also participates in the State mutual aid response system which provides Type I and Type III engine companies upon request of the California Emergency Management Agency (CALEMA). In support of Federal initiatives, the Department regularly provides overhead personnel for Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) Incident Management Teams (IMT) and is the sponsoring agency of FEMA Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Task Force Seven (Task Force 7).

LODD: Dylan Cunningham Dies In Indiana Dive Training Accident

Dylan Cunningham, a South Holland firefighter died during an underwater dive training exercise Wednesday. Cunningham, of Thornton, was pronounced dead about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The specific manner of death for the 29-year-old firefighter’s has not been determined. The incident related to his death that occurred at Haigh Quarry Lake is under investigation.

An image shared by several fire departments in the Chicago area shows Cunningham’s jacket lying atop the front of a South Holland Fire Department engine — a symbol of honor and respect for the late firefighter.

“Our condolences go out to the South Holland, IL Fire Department,” the Hobart Fire Department wrote in a Facebook post, with the photo attached.

Hammond fire officials likewise expressed a somber reaction to Cunningham’s death.

“Our hearts go out to the South Holland Firefighters Union and the Family of Brother Dylan Cunningham,” the department posted.

The department encouraged the public to send condolences to the South Holland Fire Department and to watch for details on an upcoming procession.

Cunningham served as a South Holland firefighter since 2011. He started as a part-time firefighter before joining the department full time in 2018. He was also a member of the Illinois Army National Guard since 2012, according to village officials.

“As you can imagine this is a very difficult day for all of us,” said Julia Perla Huisman, a spokeswoman for the village. “It was just in February of 2018 that Pat Mahon and I swore Dylan in as a firefighter paramedic. He truly was a very special young man.”

Mahon asked that the public support Cunningham’s family in any way possible.

“We ask that you keep Dylan’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers,” Perla Huisman said.

Late last month two New York responders were killed in a motor vehicle accident.

American Medical Response Ambulance Accident

American Medical Response DeKalb

An American Medical Response (AMR) Ambulance from DeKalb, Georgia was involved in an accident Monday night per local authorities.

Authorities confirm three people are recovering after the motor vehicle collision involving an ambulance in DeKalb County temporarily trapped them.

The accident happened on Monday evening in the area of Moreland Avenue and Bailey Street. A DeKalb Fire spokesperson said that the accident involved an American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance.

Authorities said they were able to remove all three accident victims from the wreckage including two AMR personnel and one other person who was not an employee.

The personnel had what DeKalb Fire Rescue described as minor injuries and the other person in the ambulance was said to have moderate injuries.

Authorities haven’t detailed exactly what caused the accident or whether the non-employee in the ambulance was a patient being transported.

It is unclear if the ambulance was responding to an incident or not. For years, DeKalb County leadership has been stung by complaints the ambulance contractor, American Medical Response, isn’t living up to the contract for quick responses.

Dunwoody, Brookhaven Doraville, Chamblee; all towns in north DeKalb were especially concerned about slow ambulance times.

Last week there was another ambulance accident involving a FDNY EMS unit and FDNY Ladder 102 killing the ambulance patient. Additionally two off duty EMS responders were killed early Monday morning in a separate New York motor vehicle incident.

Lincoln County EMS Accident

Lincoln County EMS was involved in a head-on collision between a quick response vehicle (QRV) and another vehicle Thursday morning injured a North Carolina paramedic. It was just four days ago that another North Carolina service, the Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency, was involved in an accident.

Lincoln County EMS (LCEMS) released a statement saying one paramedic was on board the Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) and en route to their base when the QRV was struck head-on by another vehicle at approximately 7:40 a.m. Lincoln County EMS and the East Lincoln Fire Department responded to the crash. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating.

The paramedic was extricated from the QRV and transported “emergency traffic” to the hospital, according to the agency. The other driver was evaluated at the scene and not transported. No additional information is available on the paramedic’s condition at this time. The paramedic on board was en route to his base station at the time and per the statement does not appear to be responding to a call.
