Valentyna Pushych, a Ukrainian paramedic, who was shot while on her way to evacuate injured people from the outskirts of Kyiv was buried in the country’s capital on Saturday, March 5, 2022.
Pushych was known locally as “Romashka,” which in Ukranian means “Daisy.”
A friend described her as a “daredevil,” who was never afraid to “get under bullets.’ She was always “running to the most dangerous places” to rescue the injured, Nataliia Voronkova said.
Valentyna Pushych – From Factory To Firefights
Pushych used to be a worker at a transport and logistic company.
In 2016, she joined the Ukranian army as a paramedic in response to the separatist conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Several women, including some dressed in camouflage jackets, cried as her body lay in a casket at a service. A portrait of Pushych was on a wall nearby. Red roses were placed on Pushych’s body at the cemetary on Saturday. The dirt burial was then covered with the flag of Ukraine.

Thermobaric weapons, also known as aerosol bomb, fuel air explosives, and vacuum bombs use oxygen from surrounding air to generate a higher temperature explosion. The blast wave produced by those weapons lasts significantly longer than conventional explosive ordinance.
Russia’s version of this weapon has a range of almost four miles.

The Russians attacked civilians in multiple towns and villages throughout Ukraine today in a major escalation in fighting.

Governor Greg Abbott has provided a disaster declaration for all 254 Texas counties that President Biden has approved. Biden has sent FEMA resourves to Texas including power generators and water.

One physician in Austin, Texas posted on Facebook that his facility is seeing three times as many patients as a normal day.
His post also noted that the other emergency room in the city was not taking additional patients or ambulance arrivals due to no water and no power.
Currently more than 7M people are under a “boil water” notice in Texas which is a population greater than all of Tennessee.

Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMS) has issued do not transport orders for patients requiring intensive care as area ICUs are full with COVID19 patients. EMS providers are also bring told to ration oxygen.
Southern California has one of the country’s worst outbreaks of COVID19. ICU bed availability plunged to zero in Southern California last month as more and more people were admitted to hospital seeking treatment for the novel coronavirus.
Medical facilities do not have the space or providers to take in patients who do not have a chance of survival, according to the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency. The Do Not Transport orders are not necessarily out of the norm for military style triage.
As of Monday evening, there were 7,544 people hospitalized in Los Angeles due to Covid-19 and just 17 available adult ICU beds, according to county health data. Due to the shortage of beds, the county EMS said patients whose hearts have stopped, despite efforts of resuscitation, should no longer be transported to hospitals.
If there are no signs of breathing or a pulse, EMS will continue to perform resuscitation for at least 20 minutes, the EMS memo said. If the patient is stabilized after the period of resuscitation, the patient would then be transported to a hospital. If the patient is declared dead at the scene or if no pulse can be restored, paramedics will no longer transport the patient to the hospital.
Do Not Transport Orders
There is also an acute shortage of oxygen in Los Angeles and the nearby San Joaquin Valley, due to COVID19. It is putting pressure on the entire emergency medicine system and forcing EMS responders to conserve the supply.
In order to maintain normal circulation of the blood to organs and tissue needed for the body to function, EMS said an oxygen saturation of at least 90% will be sufficient. This does follow American Heart Association standards on resuscitation training.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom formed a task force to address the issue last week. It is working with local and state partners to help refill oxygen tanks and mobilize them to hospitals and facilities most in need, but he has faced mounting criticism after telling Californians to quarantine at home and he was seen dining with health industry executives at the opulent French Laundry.
500 Doses of the Moderna COVID19 vaccine were destroyed by a now-former employee at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, Wisconsin. The coronavirus vaccine vials were “intentionally removed” from refrigeration, forcing officials to throw out nearly 500 doses, according to an internal investigation.
Aurora Medical Center officials had initially suspected the Moderna vaccines, which must be kept between 36 and 46 degrees Fahrenheit, had inadvertently been left out at their Grafton hospital location on December 26.
A later investigation found the individual “acknowledged that they intentionally removed the vaccine from refrigeration,” officials said Wednesday.
The medical center, which is part of Advocate Aurora Health, has notified “appropriate authorities for further investigation” and added that the individual is no longer employed by Aurora. The individual has not been identified.
“We continue to believe that vaccination is our way out of the pandemic. We are more than disappointed that this individual’s actions will result in a delay of more than 500 people receiving their vaccine. This was a violation of our core values.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, Aurora Health Care said, more than 21,000 health care workers had received the first of two injections at the company’s centers.
The Fire Department of New York – FDNY COVID19 vaccination plan began in earnest on Tuesday for the front line heroes facing the pandemic in the community.
“I’d like to thank the Department, Chief Medical Officer, the nurses and all the members who made this happen so quickly and worked so hard to bring this vaccine to our members. I have full confidence in the vaccine and its efficacy.
I think this is the path back to what we would consider a normal life and we are encouraging all our members to participate,” says Fire Department of New York Uniformed Firefighters Association Health and Safety Officer Michael Schreiber, who received the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine today along with other FDNY Firefighters.
UFA President Andrew Ansbro says, “I just received my first dose of the Moderna Vaccine and scheduled my second dose. I’m looking forward to society getting back to normal. I encourage all the members in the Department to sign up and get vaccinated.”
The FDNY Moderna COVID-19 Vaccination Plan, conducted by the FDNY Bureau of Health Services (BHS) in conjunction with the Bureau of Operations, continues at FDNY Headquarters in Brooklyn, the FDNY EMS Academy at Fort Totten, and the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall’s Island.
COVID-19 vaccinations began on December 23, and will continue for the next several weeks. As of today, over 1,000 FDNY members have been vaccinated.
It is unclear if the current approved vaccination will work against the new UK COVID19 strain which has been found in Colorado via community transmission.
The UK COVID19 strain has appeared in a Colorado man. He is the first person in the United States diagnosed with a new COVID-19 mutation that United Kingdom officials recently warned was significantly more contagious, according to state officials.
The man, who lives in Elbert County, is in his 20s, has no travel history and no close contacts yet identified, state officials said in a Tuesday news release. The man remains in isolation, and contact tracing continues. A second case in the county is suspected, and both individuals were working in Simla, about an hour northeast of Colorado Springs.
UK COVID19 Strain in Colorado
Governor Jared Polis revealed the worrying news in a tweet, writing: ‘Today we discovered Colorado’s first case of the COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, the same variant discovered in the UK. The health and safety of Coloradans is our top priority and we will monitor this case, as well as all COVID-19 indicators, very closely.’
An attached statement said the Colorado State Laboratory confirmed the case and notified the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
The new mutant strain may not be treated with the vaccine being distributed currently. It has not moved quickly enough to stop the cancellation of the NCAA’s college football Texas Bowl which was cancelled yesterday.
The Mercari Texas Bowl between Arkansas and TCU has been canceled due to COVID19 cases, bowl officials said Tuesday.
The game, which was scheduled for New Year’s Eve at NRG Stadium in Houston, was canceled because of an increase in positive COVID-19 tests, injuries and other circumstances within TCU’s program.
TCU athletic director Jeremiah Donati said in a statement that those issues left the Horned Frogs short of the Big 12’s threshold for player availability.
It was set to be Arkansas’ first bowl appearance since 2016. The Razorbacks received an invitation, despite a 3-7 record, because the NCAA waived win eligibility requirements this season due to scheduling difficulties stemming from the pandemic. The Razorbacks join Missouri, South Carolina and Tennessee as SEC teams that accepted a bowl invitation but will not play in one because of COVID-19 issues with one of the participating teams.
TCU’s season concludes at 6-4. It is the second game the Horned Frogs had to cancel because of virus-related issues; they also canceled their season opener vs. SMU.
While the COVID19 vaccines are in the process of being distributed multiple social media posts state that at the current pace it will take ten years to innoculate everyone.
Texas Bowl – First Event Cancelled For COVID19 Since Christmas
Public health officials have been warning of a surge in COVID19 numbers since Thanksgiving and Christmas travel where more people traveled than almost any other time of the year.
Law enforcement went on to say they do not believe anyone else was involved in the explosion.

Law enforcement has not yet cited a motive for Warner’s actions in downtown Nashville, but they are not currently seeking other suspects.
